story when Jesus came to us! Meet the furry animal residents of Bethlehem, Miles Mouse, Ewelyn the
Ewe, Louisa Mae the Lamb, Maximillian the Ram, Grandpa Sol, Bettima, Jasmina, and Lily as they
anticipate the arrival of a new baby!
The animals each play a special part in this Christmas story. Stationed in Bethlehem, these characters
are minding their business when all of the sudden, something big is happening at the Inn. You follow
each animal as they hear the news and witness something very special in their city! Follow along as your
friends tell you the Christmas story from their point of view.
Christmas is for everyone
As the story unfolds, your child will see that all of the characters in “Bethlehem the Beginning” are
different. They are different sizes, have different jobs, and have different backgrounds. But as the story
progresses, their paths cross at the birth of this baby. Your child will discover that this is no ordinary
baby being born. There is something special about Jesus that reverberates into their lives over 2000
years after this Christmas day.
A Christmas Story for the entire family
The original illustrations in “Bethlehem the Beginning” bring to life each of the animals with vibrant
detail and color. Each page is full of colorful pictures that show the personality of each player and the
charm of Bethlehem in Jesus’s day. With the illustrations is a text that is entertaining for children and
their parents alike! The story is written so that your child can understand and is captivating for parents
and grandparents and aunts and uncles as well. We know that the holidays are about spending time
together, and family is especially important when learning about Christmas day and when Jesus was
born. That’s why we wrote Bethlehem the Beginning. As a mother and son team, we wanted to create a
book that would appeal to everyone and teach the Christian Christmas story across all the generations
of your family.
Why is the Christmas Story important to me?
“Bethlehem the Beginning” introduces your child to the significance of the Christmas story in a way that
is fun and accessible to them. The hilarious characters will draw your children in while teaching them
about the new baby that came and changed everything. As the story unfolds and your children are
listening to you read, you can explain why the Christmas story is important to your family. The book will
help your children see how Christmas originated and why we celebrate today.
Once they understand where Christmas came from, you can then use this time to explain how Jesus’s
birth impacts them in their own understanding of Christianity. Why did Jesus have to be born? What
happens in Jesus’s life? Where is Jesus now? Our book serves as an introduction into these questions
that are crucial for your child to ponder and reflect on.
Keep Christ in Christmas
We believe that the Christian Christmas Story is important and deserves to be told. Christmas is now
commercialized, and it is easy to forget the origins of this story. But we know that as Christians, what we
believe about Christmas Day shapes a lot about our own personal story. “Bethlehem the Beginning”
helps parents bring children into the story of how Jesus was born and gives them an opportunity talk
about how their present is shaped by what happened in the past on that Christmas day so long ago. We
want to equip you to teach your children that Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas, and this book
is one small way to incorporate the story of Jesus into your holiday traditions, making the time engaging
Families and Christmas
Bethlehem the Beginning is for families. Parents can read to kids, but the book is written so that children
can present the fun story to their families. These days, it is so easy for your attention to be pulled in so
many directions, and focused time with your kids can feel like a rarity. At Christmastime, there are often
parties and engagements that you have to attend, which are good things! But with your family is the
best way you could hope to spend your time. We hope and pray that “Bethlehem the Beginning” will
help you facilitate quality time while still educating your kids about the Christian Christmas story.
Starting family traditions with your kids is something that you will remember for the rest of your life,
and we are thankful to be a part of your Christmastime.
